Selling in Provo

Why Provo owners work with Legacy Handoff

Utah County is our home turf. Legacy Handoff is based in Highland, and we've built and run businesses in this county ourselves. It's also one of the fastest-growing counties in America: the population keeps climbing, housing keeps going up from Lehi to Payson, and every new rooftop feeds the service businesses that keep the valley running. Construction and trade companies, landscapers, restaurants, medical and dental practices, and the services that support Silicon Slopes have all grown with it. Growth like that does two things for a seller: it supports strong revenue trends (which buyers pay for), and it keeps a steady stream of buyers moving into the area looking for a business to own.

Who's buying Provo businesses

The buyer pool here skews young and motivated. BYU and UVU turn out thousands of graduates who want to own something rather than work for someone, many backed by family capital or SBA loans. Add the tech money along the Lehi corridor looking for cash-flowing businesses to buy, and strategic buyers consolidating trades across the county, and a well-priced Utah County business rarely waits long for interest.

Close to home. This is where we live and work. If your business is in Utah County, your first conversation with us can be across a table this week.

Why Legacy Handoff

We've bought, built, and sold businesses. So we know how it works.

Most brokers have never sold a business of their own. Our team has, more than once, and we're still involved in acquisitions today. That changes how we represent you.

You work directly with our team

You work with Riggs and the people around him from the first call to closing, not an associate you've never met. You'll have our cell numbers.

No upfront fees

No retainers, no marketing fees, no hourly billing. We're paid a commission at closing. If your business doesn't sell, you owe us nothing.

We know how buyers think

We buy businesses too, so we know exactly what the buyer across the table is looking for and where they'll push.

Confidential by default

Your business is marketed blind. Buyers sign an NDA and prove they can close before they learn your company's name.

How it works

Five steps from first conversation to closing day.

No mystery, no surprises. Most Provo deals close in six to twelve months, and some have closed in 45 days.

01

Free consultation

We start with a free consultation to understand your needs and goals: what the business does, what you're hoping to walk away with, and when you'd like to be done. No pitch, no pressure.

02

Valuation

We provide a detailed, no-cost valuation of your business. A real number you can defend at the table, not one designed to win your listing.

03

Confidential listing

We craft a confidential marketing plan and advertise your business to our buyer list and the major marketplaces in a generic way that never reveals your name or location. Nothing goes out without your approval.

04

Buyer screening

We screen every inquiry and weed out the tire kickers and time wasters. Qualified buyers sign a confidentiality agreement before they see anything specific, so you can stay focused on your business.

05

Negotiation and closing

We manage offers and counteroffers with your best interests in mind, keep due diligence moving so a buyer never goes cold, and handle the paperwork through closing. Then it's time to celebrate.

Riggs Powell, founder of Legacy Handoff
Riggs PowellFounder, Legacy Handoff

Meet the founder

We've sat on both sides of the table.

Riggs Powell started Legacy Handoff after selling businesses of his own. He built a company and helped sell it for eight figures, has sold six businesses himself, and has bought businesses as well. He knows what it's like to hand over something you built from nothing, and what a seller needs from their broker, because he's been the seller.

We're still involved in acquisitions and running businesses today. That keeps us sharp on what buyers want, what lenders will finance, and what a company is really worth. When we represent you, we're not guessing what buyers want. We are one.

Selling a business in Provo

Questions Provo owners ask

Do you work with businesses in Lehi and the north county?

Yes, all of Utah County: Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, and the Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain growth corridor included. We're based in Highland, so most of the county is within 20 minutes of us.

What kinds of Utah County businesses sell fastest?

Service businesses with recurring revenue and a manager in place: home services, landscaping with commercial contracts, medical and dental practices, and well-located franchises. Buyers also move quickly on construction and trade companies with clean books and a licensed qualifier willing to stay through transition.

How does Legacy Handoff get paid?

Commission only, paid at closing. No retainers, no upfront marketing fees. If the business doesn't sell, you owe nothing.

Will my sale be kept confidential?

Yes. Your business is marketed blind. Buyers sign an NDA and show proof of funds before they learn your company's name.
